Biography

Ashley Heitkamp is an experienced family law attorney based in the Fargo office of Nilson Brand Law, where she focuses her practice on high-asset divorce, child custody and parenting time, and parenting investigations and custody evaluations. Her work often involves complex financial matters, including family businesses, farmland, and trust-related issues, requiring both strategic planning and careful attention to detail.

Ashley brings a diverse professional background to her practice, including experience working for federal judges, serving as a former prosecutor, negotiating complex contracts within the healthcare industry, and her own perspective as a parent. This combination allows her to approach each case with a practical, well-rounded, and solutions-oriented mindset.

In high-asset divorce matters, Ashley works collaboratively with a trusted network of professionals, including appraisers, forensic accountants, and vocational experts, to build strong, well-supported cases from the outset. This approach helps streamline settlement whenever possible and ensures that, if trial is necessary, the case is presented efficiently and effectively.

Ashley has always been drawn to working with children. From babysitting and teaching swim lessons to nannying, working in after-school programs, and now raising her own three children, she has developed a natural ability to connect with kids in a direct and meaningful way. Outside of her practice, Ashley enjoys spending time with her husband, three children, and their two dogs. She hopes to have hobbies someday, but for now, most of her free time is spent driving her kids to their activities or cheering them on from the sidelines. When possible, she and her family can be found at the lake, making the most of North Dakota’s summer months.”
